WELCOME TO FALKIRK TWINNING
Falkirk, Scotland - The Odenwald, Germany - Creteil, France.
2,000 years ago all three were outposts of the Roman Empire. Now they are back together through the bond of twinning.
The Falkirk Area
This historic area in Central Scotland with its new exciting tourist image based on the unique Rotating Boat Lift is within easy access of Edinburgh, Glasgow and the popular North and South tourist regions.
The Council area is twinned with the Odenwald region, a quiet mainly rural area in the south-west of Germany, and Creteil, a large cosmopolitan town lying to the south of Paris, France.
Twinning is looked after by two voluntary groups - the Odenwald Association and Falkirk District Twinning Association. They have launched Falkirk Twinning to promote the twin town concept with each association continuing to deal separately with their respective twinned communities.
Twin town activities
Twinned towns have traditionally been involved through exchanges of groups, large and small, engaged in similar activities. Modern technology has added a new dynamic allowing people to exchange ideas and views by e-mail, webcam, video and tape.
Emphasis has always been placed on vibrant programmes involving youths, special needs groups, the arts and sport.
Many benefits of being twinned
There are many benefits to be enjoyed through the twin town experience enabling you to see a community as it actually lives and not a plastic tourist version.
Being twinned will take you to places and expose you to experiences which you would never enjoy as a tourist 'following the crowd'; instilling a sense of camaraderie with twinners from Falkirk, the Odenwald and Creteil.
It will enable you to make lifelong friends and to enjoy the pleasure of trying to communicate with each other in different languages.
Twinning will:-
- expand your knowledge and allow you to learn from the other cultures and traditions,
- bestow a feeling of self-confidence as young people, in particular, learn to travel abroad independently and engage in communication with their Scottish, German and French twinners.
You can be sure that the communities of Falkirk, the Odenwald and Creteil will always extend a very warm welcome to you.
